After and Before: Disruptors are the new cool

Team work is bliss

Today I invite you to look at a piece of work I did some years ago.

In the spirit of disruption an after and before. Have you noticed how disruptors are the new cool? Anything or anyone who disrupts the normal way of doing things gets the kudos, the fan base and the stand-up-and-take-a-look response that is expected. Now let’s dispense with tradition and turn it upside down.

So this is how it’s going to go.

I’m asking you to look at an after and a before; AFTER first so you can be impressed; BEFORE subsequently, so you can really see how good the AFTER is. Now, if you are thoroughly confused, that’s what I want.

Here’s the after:

AFTER

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

Survival is a well-known sentiment in business and never more relevant than in the information age where the fight is more fierce, the terrain more treacherous.

In the African wild, where instinct dictates flight or fight responses, we look to the Meerkat for its strategic dynamic and ability to outwit the most challenging opponent.

In a highly inspirational one hour presentation – Meerkat Motivation for the Marketplace – you will marvel at this feline creature’s finesse.

Meerkats eke out a living against overwhelming odds on a daily basis in an environment of 3 square miles of sand, amidst threatening jaws and claws; power and speed. Any business challenge pales in comparison to the daily quest of the masterful Meerkat.

Television viewers in more than 160 countries have been mesmerised by Animal Planet’s number-one show “Meerkat Manor”, the real life story of the cooperative nature of Meerkats in the wild.

Estienne De Beer’s Meerkat Motivation for the Marketplace is a riveting presentation set to inspire your team to reach new heights by following the Meerkat’s examples of extraordinary courage and proven leadership.

Meerkats are the most famous in the “Shy 5” animal group and their supreme success can be attributed to 5 distinct behaviours, incidentally the same “Shy 5” behaviours that are apparent in the workplace.

  1. Hard Work The Old Fashioned Way – Meerkats excavate and shift 50 times their weight in sand in one morning. When you go the extra distance in business, there are no traffic jams.2. Rigorous Personal Development – Meerkats operate in a living learning organisation, continuously passing on knowledge to each other through voluntary coaching, learning and teaching.3. Unshakable Courage – Almost all living creatures in their environment want to make quick work of the Meerkat, but they band together to chase away hostile predators many times their size.4. Relentless Teamwork – Meerkats redefine teamwork through clearly defined duties and constantly affirm and reinforce relationships for the sake of survival.

    5. Leading from the Front – Meerkats operate in a meritocracy where the most experienced team members model behaviour for the rest of the group. The group is never far behind the leader(s). Meerkats are undisputable masters of teamwork.
